When Jennell was first introduced to encaustic art over 12 years ago, she was immediately drawn to the diverse effects that can be created with wax. The sense of depth that can be created through translucent layers was particularly captivating. The ability to add images and text, to carve lines and to build up texture were all intriguing. And using a blow torch to do much of the work was a bonus!

More recently, Jennell has discovered the magic of cyanotypes. She uses it to develop her own photographs or to make images with botanical materials from the garden and nearby forest. The results of both approaches are often integrated with encaustic.

Over the years, Jennell has taken a wide range of in-person and online courses from professional artists in Canada, the US and internationally. While she started her encaustic explorations in the Yukon, she now lives on Vancouver Island, in Courtenay BC and works from her home studio.
