Showing at tin Town Cafe

Two of my encaustic pieces (both 12″x12″) are up at the @tintown.cafe in Courtenay as part of a show coordinated by @comoxvalleyarts.

The show includes 25 artists and is up until early September 2026 so drop by for a delicious coffee to check it out!

New work at Artifact

I dropped off a number of new magnets at Artifact (@artifactshop.ca) on 5th St. in Courtenay today, along with a number of other small pieces. All of the magnets are original cyanotypes made with either botanicals or my photos.

The upper left and lower left ones were toned with tea made from avocado skins. The other two brownish ones were toned with matcha tea.

Encaustic workshop in Guanajuato

In March I travelled to the city of Guanajuato to take a four-day course called “Exploring Encaustic Painting and the Color of Mexico”. The instructor, Jeffrey Hirst, is a Chicago-based artist who has worked in encaustic for many years. The luminosity he manages to achieve in his work is captivating and something I wanted to delve into more.

Guanajuato is an amazingly colourful and walkable city. Many of the streets are too narrow for cars and there is an extensive network of tunnels that allows cars to travel the city, beneath pedestrians’ feet. Walking the city felt like exploring the entire palette of Mexico.
